The 5 Best Enneagram Books (And Other Resources)

5 best enneagram books (1).png

If you are new to the Enneagram, prepare to have your world rocked and step into a journey of self-discovery that will change your life.

(And I say that being someone who has been in the ‘personality test’ world for years. The Enneagram & Strengths Finder are my top 2 personality/self-development assessments.)

And I promise I am not exaggerating.

Learning about the Enneagram will open the door to a vast spiritual journey. You will begin to understand yourself and others in the most profound way.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out my Enneagram overview

And then, learn about which test to take. This will serve as your foundation for self-discovery, but there is so much more than you can learn about beyond a set of questions.

Taking a test is a great place to start. After you have your numbers, focus on the top three, and use those as a guide to narrow down, and know where to dig a little deeper into yourself.

When you want to learn more, check out these resources that I talk about in the video above.

I highlight some of the best Enneagram books below, and all the links are affiliate links with Amazon, the price is the same for you.

The 5 Best Enneagram Books:

THE ROAD BACK TO YOU

If you are new to the Enneagram, start with The Road Back To You, by Ian Cron & Suzanna Stabile.

This book is the best introduction to the Enneagram I have found. It offers a really informative overview and is an easy read.

If you are like me and like to learn well through listening, it is also available on audiobook.

The best part about The Road Back to You is that both authors have their own podcasts. So, if you read this and want to hear more, check out Typology with Ian Cron, and The Enneagram Journey with Suzanne Stabile.

THE PATH BETWEEN US: AN ENNEAGRAM JOURNEY TO HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

Another one of the best Enneagram books I’ve read is by Suzanne Stabile, who co-authored The Road Back to You. She published her own book called The Path Between Us

I love how she approaches the study of the Enneagram. Suzanne talks about not using the test as the only determination for your Enneagram because the questions can only tell you WHAT you do, and not WHY. Why we do what we do is at the core of what defines our Enneagram number.

This book focuses specifically on relationships, and how the Enneagram can shed light on how to have healthy relationships between all types.

From a personal perspective, I could have saved all the years my husband and I spent trying to figure out the best ways to communicate and understand each other. All I needed to do was read Suzanne’s section on his Enneagram type!

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to use the Enneagram to help in their relationships.

THE COMPLETE ENNEAGRAM: 27 PATHS TO GREATER SELF-KNOWLEDGE

If you buy no other book, buy The Complete Enneagram by Beatrice Chestnut.

(This is one of the best Enneagram books I have read and one of my favorites.)

This book takes such a detailed deep dive into each type and subtype, there’s a chance it will rock you to your core.

I mentioned that I often listen to books more than I read them, but I have read this book cover to cover. When I got to some of the descriptions, it felt so right on, I got goosebumps. It describes me and my husband in eerily accurate ways.

Beatrice Chestnut did an amazing job writing this book. It is such a wealth of information, written in a way that you will truly get sucked in.

The Enneagram: A Christian Perspective

If you are a fan of Richard Rohr, you will love his take on the Enneagram.

The Sacred Enneagram: Finding Your Unique Path To Spiritual Growth

This was one of the books I read more recently, and therefore later on in my Enneagram journey. I will say that it turned into one of my favorite books, and even if you are very familiar with the Enneagram you will learn a lot from this book.

More Enneagram Resources!

Here are a few of the other best Enneagram books I mentioned in the video as well as the link to the 12-week course I mentioned from Suzanne Stabile.

  • The Enneagram Journey is a 12-week course run by Suzanna Stabile (the author of The Path Between Us). The course has 60-minute lessons, and a workbook that is great for a group setting.

  • Understanding the Enneagram: The Practical Guide To Personality Types - This is the mother of all Enneagram books. It might take you a while to get through but is really great to use a reference point.

  • Beth McCord has an amazing 1:1 and group course, and when I took it it was only with other 6’s! She also has a course to train other Enneagram coaches, if you are interested in eventually sharing your knowledge.

There you have it, my friends! These are some of the best Enneagram books and resources that are more than enough to get you started on your journey of self-discovery.

If you are just starting on your Enneagram journey, it is suggested that you have a group or person you trust to do the work together.

Find a few friends in your area and start a group, reach out to a coach, or find a live training to take, you won’t regret it.

I integrate Enneagrams into my coaching for anyone who is interested, and I love how it helps my clients and I figure out how I can be the best coach for them.

If you’re a mom who wants to learn how to use their Enneagram to calm the chaos, get healthy, and have more energy for the life you want to live, reach out today to schedule a call
